Today we have special guest Vic Ruggiero live and direct in the studio! A multi-talented staple in the NYC ska scene as well as having performed with such bands as Rancid and nuturing side projects of his own, Vic can sing and play anything from a Hammond organ to a banjo.

Queen Majesty will be playing some of her favorite rocksteady and ska, while talking to Vic about his musical history as well as what he is working on now. He's also bringing some of the latest Slackers for us to listen to and rumor has it he's bringing his acoustic guitar - tune in LIVE!

We were very saddened to find out January 12th that another great reggae artist, Vivian Jackson aka Yabby You aka Jesus Dread had passed on... Scratch Famous dedicated the first hour to his memory with a loving set of some of Yabby You's work. The second half of the show was a dedication by Queen Majesty in honor of the great Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior. Check the archive.

Wow, we were overjoyed when legendary Studio One artist Sugar Minott came through with crew and dropped wicked version after version LIVE on air over b-sides in the Studio!!! 09.07.09 - Shinehead LIVE in the studio & Steely tribute

We start out the show playing some of our favorite Steely & Cleevie tunes, as we were saddened to learn that one half of the influential musical power duo, Wycliffe "Steely" Johnson, had recently passed away from pneumonia complications. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. His music will live on.

Next up one of our favorite artists passed by the studio - Shinehead! Shinehead was a man who lived by the principal -- A wicked chune is a wicked chune! With Shinehead you have a man who took the music in a new direction adding elements of hip hop, pop standards, new wave, punk rock while remaining firmly rooted to the basis of Jamaican music through his innovative use of updated foundation riddims and a wide knowledge and love for Jamaican music from the 60s, 70s & 80s. At a Shinehead show with African Love back in the days you could expect to hear a riff on an Ansel Collins classic reggae track, a touch of The Beatles, some whistled notes from Fiddler on the Roof, a Michael Jackson tune, some Bronx hip hop and a paen to classic Studio One. We were so excited to have him as a guest, check the wickedness he drops freestyle on the mic!

07.14.09 - Just Ice selections

Just Ice burst out of Ft. Greene, Brooklyn back in 1986 with his universally beloved debut single "LaToya" / "Put That Record back On" and the follow up LPs Back To The Old School and Kool & Deadly (produced by KRS ONE). As a member of Boogie Down Productions, Just Ice was one of the true school rappers that turned the late 80s/early 90s into such a golden period for hip hop. In recent years, Just Ice has fully embraced his Yard Man vibe by developing into a respected selector of Jamaican music from the foundation of Studio One all the way up to new school boomshots! Check out yesterday's show for some 60's and 70's from Queen Majesty for the first half hour, Scratch Famous with the Rub A Dub Stylee, and then a special set by our special guest, Just Ice...!

06.23.09 - Screechy Dan live and direct

This show the Godfather of New York Reggae, Screechy Dan passed thru Deadly Dragon Sounds to talk some history, play some tunes, and drop a few freestyles! We here at Deadly Dragon Sound have always been major fans of Screechy Dan from his earliest Digital BOOM tunes to his major hits like "Pose Off," "Big Bills" and "Boomin In Your Jeep" so we felt blessed to have him in the studio live & direct! So check the show as we play tunes from Screechy and the whole Flatbush crew as well as talk some SERIOUS history about New York reggae past, present and future.

06.16.09 - Diplo drops some Major Lazer

Big ups to Major Lazer and the album "Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do" dropping today, get it while you can!! Thanks to Diplo for stopping by the studio this past Monday to play a bit of the album as well as some of his favorite reggae joints, been wanting to get him on the show for a minute. Queen Majesty starts and closes the show with with some digital action, a few songs specifically saluting Major Lazer such as "Pass Me The Laser Beam" and Sancho's "Chase Vampire". 05.24.09 - Leftside, Chino & Laden!

Hope you have tuned into to last Mondays show, big ups to the one DJ Gravy (www.djgravy.com) for coming through to drop a killer set from 6-7pm. Then we had Selector JD on the second half of the show, joined at the end by three BIG new artists from JA: Laden, Chino, and Leftside aka Mr. Evil. Nuff respect to them for passing through and talking to us on the show, as well as Kenny Meez and Alric & Boyd for hanging out. They were all in town for the huge Federation Sound 10th Anniversary party that was off the hook. Listen in to this past Monday's show to hear Queen Majesty play some of her favorite rocksteady tunes, many from the renowned Studio One label, and then Scratch Famous starts up his Mother's Day special with plenty big Mama tunes for you for the first half hour of his set... for the second half, we are joined by our good friend and renowned songwriter / composer Adam Schlesinger of Tinted Windows and Fountains of Wayne ! He stops by the studio to say hello and listen in and comment on some classic Beatles reggae covers as well as fill us in a little bit on his new project Tinted Windows. 10.16.08 - Alton Ellis lives on w/ Father Downbeat

This Monday we did a tribute show to the now late but forever great Alton Ellis. We were joined by our good friend and legendary Selector Tony Screw aka Downbeat The Ruler. 09.15.08 - R.I.P. Bertram Brown 1950-2008

On Monday, September 8th our friend and trusted partner Bertram Brown passed away. Mr. Brown was the Producer and Creator of the Freedom Sounds label and his musical legacy will always be remembered. Bertram was a true champion of the people of Greenwich Town where he grew up and lived for his entire life. He was an apex of generousity – always willing to help those around him. We here at Deadly Dragon owe him everything for both his diligent work and the absolutely open-hearted way with which he allowed us into his life, his home and into the spirit of the music which nourishes us. Words alone fail when trying to explain what this man meant to us. We will miss him terribly. The world has truly lost an essential piece of light. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Bertram Brown – Zion awaits. This show was dedicated to him.
